Three Stars Inc. – Score for the Future School Supply Drive

August 7, 2009

The intra-company championship game is upon us. You know what that means, right? The mighty titans of the Three Stars gridiron will be meeting one more time; squaring off with steely gazes; lining up in the blazing heat; gallons of sweat dripping from every pore; each member of the team determined to decimate their opponent. The rest of us however will get to idly sit in the shade, fanning ourselves, sipping lemonade and munching on some delicious barbecue while hardly breaking a sweat.

The games, being played next Friday, August 14th, will be the culmination of the company’s charity football league. The company will be donating over $4000 for back-to-school supplies, and at the games we’ll be distributing backpacks full of papers and pens to the children of Ivey Lane Homes — the same fine folks we celebrated Christmas with. We’ll serve a barbecue lunch for all of our employees and the families of Ivey Lane starting at 1:00 p.m.

If you’d like to contribute to the pile of school supplies, we’d love the extra help. You can donate generic school supplies the list below. Then just bring them by 412 and drop them in the box provided. The more supplies we collect, the better prepared all those kids will be for the coming school year!

The Latest Charity Season Winds Down at Three Stars Inc.

July 31, 2009

Although several games have been postponed by light shows in the sky – this is Florida after all – the latest season of the Three Stars Inc. charity football league is readying its finale. In the afternoon of Aug 14th the final games will be played and the new champion team will be crowned.

This season the charity league will be benefiting local Orlando school children by providing them with much needed supplies to ensure a successful return to their studies.

Third Season of the Intra Company League off to a Good Start!

June 15, 2009

We opened our third season of our intra-company league last Wednesday and everyone had a wonderful time. Check out the picture gallery at the Three Stars Inc. home page.

This season is a Score for the Future season where every point earned is a pledge of five dollars to a local charity. We’re very close to announcing the name of that charity, so check back for more information soon.

Just a Quick Heads Up

May 28, 2009

The new season of our Score for the Future Charity league begins June 2nd. All of the usualy accoutrements and fun activiities set up around the games will of course be in place as well. These are family events, so bringing the kids is perfectly okay.

Score for the Future Prepares to Kick Off Again at Three Stars Inc.

May 6, 2009

That’s right kid-a-roos! Score for the Future, the coed flag football league that raises money for Central Florida charities, is readying its third season with kickoff slated for early June. We conceived the league as a way to involve the staff in a team building activity that also benefits the local community.

Remember how it works? For every point you guys score on the field, the company’s going to donate five dollars to a charity fund. We’re working on that charity right now, so by the end of the week – and well before the first bead of sweat soaks into the field – you’ll know exactly which charity you’ll be busting heads on the gridiron for.

The other twist this season is that we’re pursuing other companies in the Orlando area who might want to join the league. They don’t have to pay any entry fees, just similarly pledge an Abraham Lincoln for every point their boys and girls score.

Last season, the players for Three Stars Inc. raised more than $2000 for the local chapter of the March of Dimes, an organization dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. With other companies on board, we hope to exceed that number.

Games will be played at the Smith Center located at 1723 Bruton Blvd. in Orlando just like they were last season, and as always non-players are encouraged to come out to the field and root our brave boys and girls on!

Three Stars Inc. Chooses the March of Dimes as Partners for their ‘Score for the Future’ Charity

March 16, 2009

The ‘Score for the Future’ outreach committee has reached its decision on how to spend the charity fund. All of the money generated from our charitable flag football league will benefit the local March of Dimes chapter, an organization dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. By the conclusion of Friday’s championship game, we expect to have raised over $2000 for the March of Dimes.

How we’ll contribute is by building baskets to be given to the  mothers of premature babies born in Orlando. This week, members of the outreach committee will be shopping for useful items any mother would need for her newborn.

However, during Friday’s championship game we’ll be accepting additional donations from employees who may want to personally contribute to the cause. We plan to donate several of these baskets to the March of Dimes during their annual March for Babies event at Lily Park in Maitland on April 25th, so any and all donations will be needed.

The  championship game will be played on Friday, March 20th at 2:30 p.m. at the Smith Center, 1723 Bruton Blvd. As usual, Davrin and his team will be serving up a tasty spread of food, and we’ll also be hosting representatives of the March of Dimes.

Three Stars Inc. Raises $2000 for Charity

March 12, 2009

Earlier this year, the executives of Three Stars Inc. pledged five dollars to our charitable outreach fund for every point scored in the intra-company flag football league. With the first season ending next week, our employees will have raised approximately $2000 for local charities.

The football league, dubbed Score for the Future, was created as an activity for Three Stars Inc. employees to not only participate in their favorite after-hours activity, flag football, but also to give back to the Central Florida community. We experienced such great success this past Christmas with our local community outreach program, Month of Miracles, it was decided a similar program would energize the staff to help the community. Boy, did it ever!

Several local charities are being considered by the outreach committee to determine the most appropriate one to receive some or all of the funds. An announcement about the fund’s dispersion is due within the next few days, so keep your ears to the ground.

The Other Flag Football League

February 5, 2009

Besides our own league, we’ve been playing in the Orlando Sport and Social Club League for a few seasons – and we’re pretty proud of how well we do in it.

Tonight starts the new season after a short break for the holidays and the usual bunch of masochists, er…I mean players will be out in forecasted 40°F weather for the second night in a row. That’s 7° Celsius, just to put a finer point on it all.

We’ll be playing two games tonight. The first one will be at 7:30 pm (44°F but feels like 40°F) and the second will be at 8:30 pm (42°F but feels like 38°F).

Regardless of the cold weather, we expect to dominate our division! So it’s time to get pumped up! Time to put on our serious game faces! Time to stock up on airborne to ward off the squadron of flu viruses that will be wafting through our office door tomorrow! Time to keep tonight’s refreshments next to the heater or we’ll all be licking beer-cicles! It’s game time!

Charity Flag Football League Kicks Off at Three Stars Inc.

February 3, 2009

And it’s going to be cold. Real cold. At Wednesday’s kickoff, which is at 5:00, weather reports indicate the air will be in the frigid mid-40s when the wind chill is factored in. But will that deter our faithful bunch of gridiron junkies? Not at all. They’re dedicated to the cause of raising money for their local community.

Remember, for each point scored during the Score for the Future games, the company will donate five dollars to the charity coffers. That money will be spent on local charity events to be decided by the outreach committee.

So, tomorrow, when you see our players spend a little extra time and effort on their touchdown victory dances, it’s because they’re contributing to the greater good, not because it’s cold and they’re trying to stay warm.
